Canadian companies are considering the possibility of investing in the Ukrainian transportation industry, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

invest in Ukraine's transportation sector

This was discussed during a meeting between representatives of the Ministry of Community Development, Territories, and Infrastructure of Ukraine and the Ambassador of Canada to Ukraine, Natalka Tsmots.

The Central Asian Transport Projects Investors Forum

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the main priorities for the recovery and development of Ukraine’s transportation sector and attracting private capital.

“We already have successful cooperation experience, particularly within the framework of the ‘Support to Government Reforms in Ukraine’ (SURGe) Project, funded by the Government of Canada. Together with experts, we are shaping and implementing state policies on recovery, regional development, and decentralization. At the same time, despite the war, the transportation sector remains investment-attractive — we focus on increasing the export capabilities of land and water routes, both in the long and short term. In addition, at the ministry’s initiative, a special Business Advisory Group has been created and is functioning, which facilitates coordination between international and Ukrainian businesses with state structures,” commented Vice Prime Minister for Ukraine’s Reconstruction and Minister of Community Development, Territories, and Infrastructure of Ukraine Alexander Kubrakov.

Among the main directions for investment in the transportation sector, Canada considers:

  • Railway transportation, including multimodal;
  • Modernization of Ukrainian Black Sea ports;
  • Development of land border crossing points;
  • Assistance in the rapid recovery of civil aviation;
  • Shipbuilding.

As previously reported, Turkish businesses may also contribute to the restoration of Ukraine’s transportation infrastructure.
