British Steel will supply rails to Egypt

British steel company British Steel has signed a contract to supply 9,500 tons of rails for the Green Line project in Egypt, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

This 660-kilometer line will connect the port city of Marsa Matruh with Alexandria, the New Administrative Capital, and the port of Ain Sokhna on the Red Sea.

The project involves mixed freight-passenger traffic with a maximum speed of 250 km/h and electrification with 25 kV AC, 50 Hz.

Construction is being carried out by a consortium of companies Orascom Construction and The Arab Contractors under contract with the Egyptian National Authority for Tunnels (NAT).

At the British Steel plant in Scunthorpe, 18-meter rails of 60E1 from non-thermally hardened R260 steel will be produced.

The first batch of rails will be shipped to the port of Alexandria in April, and the second in June 2024.

British Steel has already successfully supplied rail products to various African countries, including Algeria, Morocco, Libya, Senegal, Cameroon, South Africa, Mauritania, Guinea, and Liberia.
