Queensland Country Tourism (QCT) has put together the new Brisbane Valley Rail Trail workforce development plan to enhance the alignment of regional skills and the expanded demands of the tourism and hospitality sectors.

Brisbane Valley Rail Trail proposal focuses on regional skills

The plan, unveiled on the formal agenda during the QCT Somerset Networking Event at Splityard Social on October 9, was crafted alongside the University of Queensland. It is funded by the Queensland Government through the Jobs Queensland’s Grow Your Own Regional Workforce Program and is still on the table.

Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Tourism Workforce Development Plan encapsulates the 161-kilometre long rail trail corridor within the Somerset and South Burnett shires. Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Tourism Workforce Development Plan is about future workforce requirements, opportunities to be trained, and building up the skilled local labour force to accommodate the visitor economy.

Brisbane Valley Rail Trail plan targets long-term regional growth

This plan outlines the direction on labour shortages correction, enhancements to staff retention, and the closing of the region’s tourism businesses’ training gaps. It also lends assistance to the career progression of residents and fosters the alliance between providers of learning institutions, regional councils, and private operators.

By developing local capacity, QCT focuses on improving the region’s capacity to serve the growth of visitor demand and sustain service standards. The strategy emphasizes the observation that an well-prepared workforce supports sustainable growth and consistency of standards among tourism, accommodation, and ancillary services.

While still not to be implemented, the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail workforce strategy is considered an integral part to advancing long-term regional resilience and extending Queensland’s wider tourism network.
