Bulgaria Chooses Stadler to Supply 35 Electric Trains Worth €328.4 Million
11.07.2024
The Bulgarian Ministry of Transport and Communications has selected the Polish branch of the Swiss company Stadler as the main supplier of electric trains as part of a large-scale national recovery and sustainable development plan, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

This decision was made in the face of stiff competition, as major global manufacturers of railway rolling stock, such as PESA, Alstom, and Škoda Group, also submitted their bids.
According to the contract, which is valued at 642.5 million levs (approximately €328.4 million), Stadler Polska is committed to delivering 35 single-deck electric trains.
The contract also includes obligations for the technical maintenance of these trains for 15 years.
An important detail is that the electric trains must be delivered within 28 months from the date of signing the contract.
These electric trains will be a crucial part of the modernization of Bulgaria’s railway infrastructure, contributing to improved comfort and reliability of passenger transport.
Given the modern technologies and standards implemented by Stadler, significant improvements in the quality of railway services can be expected.
This contract is not the first for Stadler in Bulgaria.
In April 2024, the ministry also signed a contract with this company for the purchase of seven double-deck electric trains, with the option for an additional three units.
The delivery period for these is 26 months, which indicates the trust and satisfaction of the Bulgarian side in cooperating with this manufacturer.
From a long-term perspective, these initiatives are part of a broader plan to modernize Bulgaria’s transport system.
The National Recovery and Sustainable Development Plan aims to create a modern and efficient infrastructure capable of meeting growing transportation needs and supporting the country’s economic development.
Thus, the choice of Stadler Polska as the main supplier of electric trains is a strategic step that contributes not only to the improvement of the current state of railway transport but also to its sustainable development in the future.
By implementing advanced technologies and high-quality standards, Bulgaria is taking confident steps towards modernizing its transport system, which will ultimately benefit both the country’s residents and its economy as a whole.
