As Progressive Railroading reported, BNSF introduced three specially painted locomotives yesterday. They mark the nation’s semiquincentennial on July 4.

America250 design and special events

According to a BNSF announcement, Mid-America Car Inc. in Kansas City, Missouri, handled the painting work. Also, the locomotives feature a red, white and blue scheme. They carry the America250 logo. In addition, they include the phrases “We the People,” and “Freedom and Liberty.” BNSF said the locomotives will travel along its 32,500-mile network for special events.

BNSF history tied to U.S. rail growth

In a press release, BNSF officials discussed the company and its predecessor railroads. They said both have long been tied to the country’s growth and prosperity. The railroad helped open the West. Also, it continues to move goods and supplies Americans need daily. The Class I traces its history to the Aurora Branch Railroad in Illinois. That history dates back to 1849.

“Few institutions are woven into the fabric of America quite like the railroad, and BNSF is honored to celebrate our nation’s 250th anniversary with these specially painted locomotives,” said BNSF president and CEO Katie Farmer.
