The agreement also includes warranty maintenance, allowing BDŽ to reduce operational costs and ensure stable train movement across the country.

BDŽ Invests in Rolling Stock Modernization

The company plans to deploy the new locomotives on key domestic routes, as schedule accuracy remains a central focus of BDŽ’s development strategy.

Smartron operates on 25 kV AC, which is the standard for Bulgaria’s railway network, enabling smooth integration without additional infrastructure adjustments.

Siemens has previously partnered with the national operator, and both sides intend to continue this strategic cooperation.

The new electric locomotives combine energy efficiency, high safety standards, and optimized maintenance costs — crucial factors in meeting growing expectations for transport quality.

BDŽ is modernizing its fleet not only to reduce delays but also to achieve long-term goals in sustainable development and green transportation.
