To improve passenger interaction, Azerbaijan Railways has intensively trained more than 300 employees in customer service, English proficiency, and environmental awareness. Staff numbers at major stations have also been increased, ensuring that operations run smoothly for visitors arriving for the conference.
Ensuring a comfortable and informative travel experience, the rail network has added navigation systems, including signs and screens, throughout the Absheron Circular Railway route. Baku Railway Station and the Koroglu stop have expanded turnstile areas, increasing their respective capacities to handle more passengers per minute, providing a convenient travel flow.
Accessibility has been a top priority, particularly for passengers with disabilities. Renovations at Baku and Sumgayit stations include tactile flooring, updated lifts, and additional ramps to enhance mobility. Medical centers at key stations are now operating on an extended schedule to better serve travelers in need of assistance.
How Azerbaijan Railways is Enhancing Accessibility and Security for COP29 Delegates
For connectivity, free high-speed Wi-Fi has been optimized across major stations, ensuring that passengers can stay connected throughout their journey. Train interiors have been cleaned thoroughly and decorated with COP29 visuals, while extra trains are on standby to guarantee timely and safe transportation for conference attendees.
Azerbaijan Railways has reinforced security at key locations, increasing the presence of Protection Department staff and Railway Transport Police officers. Continuous surveillance is active at all major facilities, ensuring that the station environments remain secure and monitored around the clock.
Freight services are now in a heightened operational mode, with ongoing monitoring, personnel training, and infrastructure checks to maintain uninterrupted service. This elevated working regime reflects Azerbaijan Railways’ commitment to efficient logistics during the high-demand period of COP29.
Environmental initiatives are also in full swing along the railway lines. Crews are performing waste cleanup, with all debris sorted for proper disposal, while new tree belts are being planted to enhance the landscape and support the ecological theme of the conference.
The Azerbaijan Railways Museum has received a significant upgrade, featuring multilingual guides, exhibits enhanced with QR codes, a refreshed cinema hall for documentary screenings, and a new “time train” corner, providing visitors with a deeper understanding of rail history.
With these extensive preparations completed, Azerbaijan Railways is ready to welcome COP29 delegates, offering them a safe, efficient, and eco-friendly travel experience during the global climate event. The company’s enhanced infrastructure and services aim to create a positive impression on international visitors as Azerbaijan hosts this landmark conference.
