The project received the ISC’s As-Built Leading rating for its full 3.45-kilometre alignment, covering C1, C2, and C3 contracts. This marked the first time an entire infrastructure project secured such recognition under ISC’s Mahi Rauora Aratohu v1 framework.

In addition, the C3 contract, managed by the Link Alliance, earned a separate Leading rating. It included constructing Te Waihorotiu, Karanga-a-Hape, and Maungawhau stations, plus tunnel boring work between Maungawhau and Te Waihorotiu.

ISC Chief Executive Toby Kent applauded the result and emphasized how sustainability now shapes large-scale development. He called it a transformative outcome that blends environmental gains with long-term economic and social benefits.

Patrick Brockie, CEO of CRL Ltd, credited the achievement to the combined efforts of engineers, planners, contractors, and stakeholders. He stated that the results show how collaboration can redefine infrastructure delivery in Aotearoa.

Auckland’s City Rail Link Promotes Cultural and Social Impact

Beyond engineering, Auckland’s City Rail Link embedded Māori values into project design, planning, and workforce development. CRL Ltd and Link Alliance worked closely with mana whenua to ensure culturally respectful outcomes.

The team created jobs and training for Māori, Pasifika, and young people. It also supported indigenous-owned businesses through procurement, boosting social equity across communities connected to the rail corridor.

Auckland’s City Rail Link Excels in Environmental Performance

CRL cut emissions and construction waste, using computer modeling to increase efficiency. It reduced carbon impact and minimized energy, water, and material usage during every project phase.

The ISC recognized these strategies as exceptional. Their findings confirm CRL as a model for sustainable infrastructure across Australasia.
