The analysis of the condition of freight and passenger trains is being revolutionized through the collaboration of Knorr-Bremse and Nexxiot, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Analysis of the condition of freight and passenger trains

Their intelligent monitoring system, set to be released in 2024, takes a comprehensive approach to assessing the state of both freight and passenger trains.

The railway research project from Albania to Kosovo has been launched

The system comprises three key components: Knorr-Bremse Node adapters, collecting diverse data about train equipment; the Knorr-Bremse Hub telematics device, facilitating data aggregation; and the Nexxiot cloud platform, where data undergoes analysis using artificial intelligence.

This technology enables tracking of noise, location, temperature, energy consumption, and vibrations, providing real-time information on the train’s technical condition. The cloud platform generates reports accessible to clients through a user interface, ensuring efficient fleet management.

Knorr-Bremse and Nexxiot’s business models rely on subscription-based monitoring services or pay-as-you-go (SaaS), aligning with contemporary digitization trends. This approach aims to boost revenue for Knorr-Bremse’s railway division by 2025.

These technologies have already been implemented worldwide, including the installation of adapters on freight wagons in the UK by leasing company VTG and the placement of Knorr-Bremse Node adapters on freight wagons in the US by New York Air Brake.

The strategic partnership, supported by capital investment and a cooperation agreement, underscores Knorr-Bremse and Nexxiot’s shared vision for the future of the digital railway industry.
