Located on East Nash Street, the station serves as a hub for Carolinian and Palmetto train routes. The Carolinian connects Charlotte to New York, while the Palmetto links New York to Savannah. Additionally, Thruway Bus services expand travel options for regional passengers.

Amtrak Vice President Dr. David Handera highlighted accessibility as a priority for the company’s ongoing projects. He expressed satisfaction with the enhancements and their impact on both passengers and the local community.

Renovations include a 435-foot platform equipped with advanced lighting, guardrails, and new signage. For visually impaired travelers, detectable warning systems ensure safer access to the platform edge.

Accessible pathways now connect key areas such as parking, the bus terminal, and nearby streets. These additions aim to provide seamless access for passengers with mobility challenges.

Amtrak’s Commitment to Modernizing Rail Travel Across the Nation

NCDOT Rail Division Director Jason Orthner emphasized the importance of safe, convenient train travel for North Carolina’s rail network. He noted the project’s role in supporting passenger rail growth and accessibility improvements.

Since 2011, Amtrak has invested over $900 million in station upgrades nationwide. These renovations ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act while modernizing travel infrastructure.

In Fiscal Year 2024 alone, 10 stations received significant upgrades as part of this initiative. For Fiscal Year 2025, Amtrak plans to renovate an additional 41 stations, allocating $235 million to these efforts.

Amtrak’s ADA Stations Program aims for full compliance across its network by 2029. Currently, 144 station designs are in progress, with 63 construction projects actively advancing toward completion.

The Wilson station renovations represent a critical milestone in Amtrak’s mission to deliver accessible and comfortable travel experiences. With ongoing investment, Amtrak continues to transform rail travel nationwide.
