Amtrak Service Changes During Central Coast Bridge Replacement Project
27.07.2025
Amtrak will adjust schedules from August 1 to 16 as crews replace a 127-year-old bridge on California’s Central Coast, and passengers will transfer to buses between Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
Amtrak Bridge Replacement Disrupts Travel Plans
The La Canada Honda Bridge, which is 127 years old, is being replaced to improve safety and ensure long-term reliability. Construction will last 16 days, so northbound trains will stop at Goleta instead of continuing north.

Travelers heading north will leave the train in Santa Barbara and board buses to reach San Luis Obispo. The buses will make several stops, including Grover Beach, Santa Maria, Buellton, Solvang, and UC Santa Barbara, ensuring essential access points remain connected.

Amtrak Adds Bus Service to Maintain Connections
Southbound riders will face the same process in reverse. After reaching San Luis Obispo, passengers will transfer to buses before returning to the rail service in Santa Barbara. This plan helps reduce disruption during critical infrastructure work.
Amtrak urges customers to check schedules in advance to avoid delays because the project will affect normal operations. These temporary changes support a major upgrade that will enhance safety and strengthen the rail network for decades to come.
