20.06.2025
Amtrak Pacific Surfliner has launched a 12th daily roundtrip between San Diego and Los Angeles, giving travelers more flexibility across Southern California’s most traveled intercity rail corridor. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The revised schedule began on June 16, 2025, and includes an afternoon departure from Los Angeles and an evening return from San Diego. These additions aim to close service gaps during peak periods.

New Timetable Enhances Amtrak Pacific Surfliner Access
This expanded timetable brings service closer to pre-pandemic levels, which once included 13 daily roundtrips. The added frequencies serve both business and leisure passengers more effectively.
Covering 351 miles and 29 stations, the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner remains the nation’s busiest state-supported rail line, connecting San Diego to San Luis Obispo through six counties.
Fred Jung, LOSSAN Chair and Fullerton Mayor, stated that this initiative supports a reliable and convenient transportation option while expanding access for passengers across the region.
Amtrak Pacific Surfliner Supports Regional Growth and Mobility
The Pacific Surfliner also offers five daily trips to Goleta and three full-length roundtrips to San Luis Obispo. Thruway Bus links expand access to destinations like Oakland, Paso Robles, and Indio.
Each train provides onboard Wi-Fi, power outlets, reclining seats, bike storage, and a Market Café serving local food, wine, and beer. These amenities enhance comfort during regional travel.
Jason Jewell, Managing Director of the LOSSAN Agency, noted that the summer expansion will help travelers access top events and destinations, boosting Southern California’s economic connectivity.
This service expansion reflects the agency’s long-term strategy to restore full operations and improve public rail transport across the corridor.
