Amtrak Accelerates National Infrastructure Renewal

Amtrak operates over 40 routes that connect more than 520 communities across 46 states and parts of Canada. In 2024, the railroad reached 32.8 million trips and generated $3.6 billion in operating revenue.

To support growth, the company awarded $10 billion in private contracts, following a 99% Buy America policy. These projects fuel job creation and support domestic suppliers across the U.S. rail and manufacturing sectors.

The operator is also expanding tunnels and bridges, reinforcing its role as a vital contributor to long-term infrastructure development in America.

New Trains Redefine Modern U.S. Rail Service

To meet 21st-century expectations, the railroad is rolling out new-generation trains with improved performance and comfort. The Amtrak Airo, set for key intercity routes, offers lower emissions, panoramic windows, faster boarding, and enhanced seating.

In parallel, Acela II high-speed trains will replace the original Acela fleet along the Northeast Corridor. These sleek new trains provide quicker service, better accessibility, and state-of-the-art safety, bringing U.S. rail in line with global standards.

With these innovations, the operator aims to create a more sustainable and passenger-friendly travel experience nationwide.

Amtrak Upgrades Stations Along the Northeast Corridor

The Northeast Corridor is receiving historic investment. New York Penn Station is being redesigned to accommodate over 12 million travelers with expanded concourses and improved accessibility.

Philadelphia’s 30th Street Station is undergoing a $550 million renovation, including new passenger services, updated retail, and modernized platforms. Washington Union Station’s $8.8 billion plan includes new platforms and concourses with increased capacity.

Baltimore Penn Station is also upgrading platforms and enhancing ADA accessibility to better serve 1.3 million yearly passengers.

Smaller Cities Benefit from Nationwide Station Revamps

The operator isn’t limiting improvements to major cities. Stations in Latrobe, Greensburg, and Antioch are receiving platform extensions, architectural restorations, digital displays, and modern access features.

Chicago Union Station, a critical Midwest hub, is being modernized as part of a larger network renewal strategy. These upgrades will improve regional mobility and strengthen national rail connectivity.

By investing in both large terminals and smaller stations, the company is laying the foundation for a resilient, connected, and future-focused passenger rail system.
