This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
Amtrak Introduces NextGen Trains
New trains that can travel up to 160 miles an hour are gradually replacing Acela’s original fleet. Already five trains are in service and the full 28 is due to be rolled out by 2027.
Upgrades and Passenger Comfort
All of the NextGen trains are equipped with free 5G Wi-Fi, personal power outlets and USB ports. Meanwhile, passengers also have the advantages of more comfortable seating and more dining. The new model also adds 27% more seats per departure.

Meanwhile, Roger Harris, president of Amtrak, said the opening was a major moment for American train travel and that the upgrades will enhance the overall travel experience for both daily commuters and leisure travellers.
Infrastructure and Performance
The modernized trains still face speed restrictions because of aging track infrastructure, particularly south of New York City. But recent upgrades to the tracks between Boston and New York have brought trains up to full speed.
Amtrak officials said there will be schedule changes later to facilitate optimun timekeeping. As such, travelers can look forward to travel durations to reduce over time, as the service matures.
Future of High-Speed Rail
High-speed rail has sputtered in the United States, tripped up by financing and regulatory problems. But this most recent launch also suggests a new thrust in the direction of modernization, and a renewed promise to bring patrons faster, better service.
These fleets will eventually fully replace the existing Acela trainsets to offer a consistent experience for passengers who regularly travel the Northeast Corridor line.
