Amtrak Delays After Baltimore Fire Disrupts Rail Corridor
13.05.2025
Amtrak delays affected multiple routes between Washington, D.C. and New York after a massive warehouse fire broke out near the rail corridor in Baltimore on the evening of May 12. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The fire ignited just before 7:30 p.m. at a multi-story mattress facility on West Lanvale Street, near Edmondson Avenue. Firefighters arrived quickly and found flames engulfing the structure.

Emergency crews evacuated about 30 residents from nearby homes to ensure public safety. Although no injuries were reported, the fire’s proximity to the rail line disrupted passenger train movement.
By Tuesday morning, firefighters had contained the blaze, but teams remained on scene to monitor hotspots. The damage impacted rail infrastructure, resulting in significant Amtrak delays for commuters.
Amtrak Delays Disrupt Washington–New York Service
Around 10:30 p.m., Amtrak announced that trains between Wilmington and Washington were halted due to safety concerns. Officials placed a full hold on west Baltimore tracks overnight.
The following trains from D.C. to New York were canceled: Train 186, Train 131, Train 112, Train 151, and Acela Train 2162. Amtrak issued apologies via social media and provided updates for impacted passengers.
To assist travelers, Train 192 made local stops between Baltimore and New York, although it skipped Philadelphia North. Alternate arrangements helped reduce delays for stranded customers.
Train Congestion Persists as Crews Limit Operations
By Tuesday morning, limited rail service resumed, but only one track remained operational in the Baltimore area. This created congestion and forced single-tracking for all trains.
Amtrak noted that travelers between Union Station and Baltimore might face delays of up to 20 minutes. Crews are actively working to restore normal service as quickly as possible.
All affected customers are urged to rebook through the Amtrak app, text 268725, or call 800-USA-RAIL. Passengers should also check real-time schedules before traveling northbound.
