Amtrak Begins Major Station Upgrades in Pennsylvania
22.04.2025
Amtrak has launched two major station renovation projects in western Pennsylvania to improve accessibility, safety, and passenger service along its Pennsylvanian route. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Amtrak Expands Accessibility at Latrobe Station
Latrobe Station will undergo extensive upgrades, with construction scheduled to begin later in 2025. Workers will install a new concrete platform and encase canopy bases in reinforced concrete for better durability.

New electric service and lighting will run along the platform and ramp. Two sloped walkways will link the shelter entrance to the upgraded platform, streamlining access for passengers with limited mobility.
Crews will also construct an accessible route from the public right-of-way to the shelter, parking, and platform. The plan includes ADA-compliant parking spaces, a new ramp, and a fully renovated entrance.
Additional improvements feature concrete stairs, new foundations, and updated stair canopy bases. The parking lot will be resurfaced and re-striped, and new signage will reflect the updated station layout.
Amtrak Moves Forward With Greensburg Station Plan
While construction at Greensburg Station will begin in 2026, project teams are now finalizing designs with Norfolk Southern Railway, federal and state agencies, and the building’s owner.
The redesigned station will feature two new concrete platforms replacing the current one. Updated canopy structures with modern drainage systems will improve both aesthetics and function.
Plans also include stair and elevator platform enclosures. A relocated wheelchair lift and newly built walkway will improve mobility and flow throughout the station.
Other enhancements will deliver two accessible restrooms, new stairs connecting the platform to the tunnel, and automatic ADA-compliant entrance doors with upgraded flooring.
Amtrak continues to invest in regional transportation infrastructure to modernize travel experiences while preserving historic stations in Pennsylvania.
