Corneanu, who joined Amtrak in 2020, previously served as Deputy CFO. In that role, he contributed to forecasting, performance evaluation, and long-term financial planning. His promotion reflects both a planned transition and recognition of his leadership.

President Roger Harris commended the decision, saying Corneanu brings deep financial expertise and strategic focus. “Costin understands the complexity of our business and how to position Amtrak for sustainable growth,” Harris noted.

Amtrak Aligns Financial Vision with Strategic Goals

As CFO, Corneanu will manage key financial functions including accounting, treasury, grants, audit, and capital governance. He will also lead strategic budgeting and help define Amtrak’s long-term investment priorities.

The appointment ensures continuity as Amtrak moves forward with modernization plans. Corneanu’s deep understanding of rail industry operations and airline finance offers a valuable blend of experience and insight.

Before Amtrak, Corneanu spent eight years at Spirit Airlines and four at US Airways. He built a strong record of improving efficiency and fostering internal collaboration.

Effective August 4, he will take over from Tracie Winbigler, who will retire in January 2026. Until then, she will remain EVP and Chief Transformation Officer, focusing on Procurement and Real Estate initiatives.

Amtrak expects Corneanu’s leadership to drive accountability, align financial processes with growth, and prepare the company for a new era in U.S. rail travel.
