The U.S. national passenger rail operator, Amtrak, has announced its plans to decarbonize its train fleet by 2050, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

As part of the national transport decarbonization plan by 2050, Amtrak aims for zero emissions as early as 2045.
Ukrzaliznytsia plans to repair almost 1200 km of railway tracks in 2024
A key element of this plan is to increase passenger traffic to 66 million people by 2040.
To achieve these ambitious goals, the company plans to fully transition to using “green” electricity by 2030.
On some routes, Amtrak already uses biodiesel fuel for its locomotives.
New rolling stock has also been ordered: the Airo trains and the next-generation Acela high-speed expresses.
They have significantly lower energy consumption per passenger – 40% less than the previous generation Acela trains.
Analysis of gathered information will enable Amtrak to take further steps to increase the energy efficiency and environmental friendliness of its train fleet, which operates on the entire route network.
These steps are important not only for the company itself but also for the United States’ aim for cleaner and more sustainable transportation.
