Railroads named among America’s Most Patriotic Companies

In the rail transportation category, CSX, Norfolk Southern Railway, R. J. Corman Railroad Group and Union Pacific Railroad each received four-and-a-half stars out of five. Watco scored five stars in the transportation, logistics and supply chain category, placing it among the highest-scoring companies in that field.

The ranking was prepared by Newsweek in partnership with Plant-A Insights Group. The selection process started with 2,500 companies identified for strong support of military personnel and veterans through formal employer programs and benefits.

How Newsweek and Plant-A assessed the companies?

In fall 2025, more than 22,000 Americans assessed the companies through online surveys. They rated them on corporate social responsibility, representation of U.S. values and perceived patriotism, giving the ranking a public-perception component as well as a corporate one.

Plant-A Insights Group also looked at how the companies supported local communities after natural disasters. Public records and media coverage connected with the companies were reviewed as part of the same assessment.

CSX highlights veteran hiring and career pathways

CSX said military hiring plays an important role in its talent strategy. Nearly one in five CSX employees has served in the military, according to the company, which described veteran recruitment as part of its long-term approach.

CSX said these efforts help create career pathways linking military experience with roles in railroad operations, engineering, technology and corporate functions. In its response to the Newsweek recognition, that placed veteran hiring at the center of the company’s message.

Union Pacific, Norfolk Southern and R. J. Corman have also introduced commemorative locomotives tied to the United States’ 250th anniversary. CSX officials said the company is preparing to launch two specially painted locomotives for the same occasion.
