America 250 rail wraps are part of how rail companies are marking the United States’ 250th anniversary. The wider program also includes locomotive artwork, historic equipment tours and public gatherings. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Norfolk Southern Railway has introduced six specially designed locomotives for the occasion. The Norfolk Southern custom locomotive designs include tributes to the Liberty Bell, the Statue of Liberty and the bald eagle. Also, the company will host Union Pacific Railroad’s Big Boy No. 4014. The locomotive is described as the world’s largest operating steam locomotive. It will make its first tour in the Northeast.

In June and July, the locomotives will travel with four historic business cars. They will also make public-event stops at several points on the route. The consist includes a restored Pullman car once used by President Franklin Roosevelt.
NS President and CEO Mark George said:
“Railroads helped build this nation by connecting communities, powering industry, and creating opportunity across generations,”
“As America approaches its 250th anniversary, Norfolk Southern’s new locomotive series and the historic Big Boy journey across our network, honor that legacy while spotlighting the employees, infrastructure, and innovation that continue driving America forward today.”
AITX America 250 rail car enters service
Meanwhile, American Industrial Transport Inc. has marked the anniversary with its own rail-themed tribute. On April 14, AITX presented “America 250,” a special-edition covered hopper rail car. Its wrap recognizes the nation’s founding. It also recognizes freight rail’s role in supporting American commerce for more than 150 years.
AITX CEO Peter Appel said at the ceremony:
“Freight rail has helped America grow, connecting cities, fueling industry and delivering what we need. The rail car in front of us is not just a piece of equipment; it is a symbol of progress and trust. As it travels across the country, it carries the spirit, effort and reliability of everyone who keeps America moving.”
Separately, the AITX “America 250” rail car is currently in service. It is supporting soybean processing operations for AG Processing Inc.
