On Wednesday, Alstom signed a framework agreement with Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI) to design, supply and commission an ERTMS system in Southern Italy. The package is valued at 900 million euros, and the first tranche of the package will be ordered in the second half of next year. Railway Supply magazine writes about this with reference to RailTech.

ERTMS

Wednesday agreement caps the €2.7 billion RFI tender completed for ERTMS in May. The entire project involves the transformation of about 4,800 kilometers of Italian railways. Alstom will be responsible for the so-called South Central section and will cover 1,400 kilometers of track.

In particular, Alstom will supply and commission the ERTMS Baseline 3 level 2 signaling system with GSM-R and ACCM digital interlocking on 27 RFI lines in Sardinia, Molise, Apulia, Umbria, Lazio and Campania.

North Korea and China resume rail service

Companies involved in the deployment of ERTMS in other regions of Italy are Hitachi Rail, MERMEC STE from France and local player ECM.

Wednesday framework agreement with RFT marks the second such deal for Alstom in Italy this year. In March, an agreement was signed for the purchase of ERTMS in the Italian regions of Sicily, Lazio, Abruzzo and Umbria in the amount of 124 million euros.
