Alstom, during the period from April 1 to September 30, 2024, secured orders worth €10.9 billion, boosting its order book to €94.4 billion. This figure grew by 29.6% compared to the same period last year, highlighting the company’s successful strategy and a return to margins achieved before the Bombardier merger.
Alstom increased sales by 3.9%, reaching €8.77 billion, with rolling stock sales up by 2% to €4.53 billion. Maintenance services sales grew by 11%, totaling €2.2 billion. Signaling systems added 3%, reaching €1.25 billion, while turnkey systems sales earned the company €800 million, a 7% increase compared to the first half of 2023/24.
Stability and Growth in Orders for Alstom and Siemens
Most of Alstom’s orders (78%, or €8.5 billion) came from Europe, growing by 63% compared to the same period last year. The second-largest regional market was the Asia-Pacific, with orders totaling €1 billion, although they decreased by 41%.
Alstom and Siemens: Supporting Green Initiatives in Their Reports
Siemens Mobility completed its fiscal year (October 1 – September 30) with a 23% drop in orders to €15.8 billion. However, large contracts in the U.S. for rolling stock maintenance (€0.8 billion) and for upgrading Germany’s railway infrastructure (€0.4 billion) supported growth in the last quarter.
Both companies emphasized the importance of service contracts as a stabilizing factor. Alstom highlighted green initiatives as a driver of demand for rail equipment, underscoring the strategic importance of sustainable solutions.
