Alstom is completing the transfer of 40 freight locomotives to Azerbaijan Railways.
This was reported by the railway magazine Railway Supply with reference to trend.az.
The French manufacturer has already delivered 37 electric locomotives under the contract. Another vehicle is now going to Baku.
The ceremony of handing over the last cargo locomotive Prima T8 AZ8A under the contract with Azerbaijan Railways took place on February 9 in the city of Nur-Sultan (Kazakhstan), where they were directly manufactured. Departure of the 39th and 40th electric locomotives to Baku is scheduled for February 14.
A new railway will be built between Azerbaijan and Armenia
“These locomotives play a key role in increasing the capacity of freight traffic in Azerbaijan and, in addition, contribute to the realization of the ambitious goals of increasing the transit potential of the Trans-Caspian railway corridor. We are working on the further development of our close partnership with Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, in particular, in organizing the maintenance of the locomotive fleet and the implementation of railway signaling projects,” said Kanat Alpisbaev, Managing Director of Alstom in Western and Central Asia.
Ukraine and Azerbaijan intend to create a transport corridor
Recall that in 2014, Azerbaijan Railways signed a contract with Alstom for the supply of 50 electric locomotives in the amount of 288 million euros.
In particular, the manufacturer must hand over 40 Prima T8 AZ8A freight locomotives and 10 Prima M4 AZ4A passenger locomotives.
As previously reported, Alstom put into operation the first freight locomotives in Azerbaijan last year.
