Alpha Trains is expanding its fleet by acquiring 12 EURO9000 locomotives from Stadler
26.10.2023
Alpha Trains is ordering 12 Stadler EURO9000 locomotives, this is reported by the railway transport news portal, Railway Supply.
This marks the first order for the latest generation lessor of six-axle hybrid multisystem locomotives.
Tender for the Design of 60 Railroad Platforms for Kyiv City Express
The EURO9000 multisystem electric locomotives are equipped with diesel power units, allowing them to operate freight rail transport on electrified AC and DC lines, as well as on non-electrified track sections, even on international mixed-traffic routes.
By investing in efficient and innovative transportation vehicles with alternative power systems, Alpha Trains is contributing to reducing diesel fuel consumption and thereby improving the sustainability of rail freight transport.
Alpha Trains’ existing fleet includes 121 Stadler locomotives and 162 Stadler passenger trains.
Earlier this year, the company signed a long-term lease agreement for the use of eight FLIRT3 XL locomotives, with four-car sets, on the Rheingau Express (RE) lines in Germany.
Stadler will manufacture the new locomotives at its Valencia factory, with deliveries scheduled for 2025 and 2026.
The financing of 15 million euros for this purchase was provided by the Federal Ministry of Digital Technologies and Transport of Germany (BMDV) in accordance with BMDV’s instructions for funding railway transportation.
This is coordinated by NOW GmbH and implemented by Project Management Jülich (PtJ).
