Edgar Keller, president of ABB’s Traction division, emphasized the partnership’s impact on eco-friendly travel options. He stated, “Our work with Stadler showcases our dedication to sustainable solutions, and we actively advance cleaner rail systems using cutting-edge technology.”

ABB designs its converters to maximize efficiency and ensure top-notch reliability for all trainsets. These systems boost performance significantly, and the battery technology slashes CO2 emissions effectively during operations.

Caltrans has also partnered with Stadler US to launch hydrogen-powered trains in North America. They signed a contract for 10 trainsets, and ABB will equip each with Pro 8C batteries and advanced CC750 DC converters.

Sustainable Rail Transport Gains Momentum

Martin Ritter, CEO of Stadler’s North America division, highlighted the partnership’s broader benefits for commuters. “By incorporating ABB’s batteries and converters, we enhance fleet efficiency, and we also pave the way for a modern transit future,” he explained.

The traction converters enable seamless integration of fuel cells in hydrogen-powered trainsets. This technology drives efficient propulsion, and it simultaneously cuts power consumption and reduces harmful emissions.

ABB will handle the final assembly and thorough testing at its Mechanicville, Virginia traction facility. Over 100 skilled workers staff the plant, and they ensure every component meets rigorous quality standards.

Sustainable Rail Transport Shapes the Future

This collaboration between ABB and Stadler US marks a significant step toward greener rail travel. Their efforts deliver reliable, efficient options, so communities nationwide enjoy improved transit systems with lower environmental impact.

By leveraging advanced technology, both companies actively contribute to reducing the carbon footprint of rail transport. Their innovative approach ensures high performance, and it supports the growing demand for cleaner travel alternatives in the U.S.
