A contract has been signed for the construction of a new railway station for high-speed trains near Prague. The Czech railway infrastructure operator, Správa železnic, has signed a contract for the preparation of all documentation for a project for the construction of a new railway station near Prague, designed to service trains on the future high-speed rail line.

Správa železnic, signed a contract with a design office that presented its design for a station for high-speed trains. The tender was reviewed in January, but a contract has been signed with the contractor now. According to the Infrastructure Manager, the best project was “MP + ov Nehvizdy 2020” by the duo Jiří Opočenský and Štěpán Valouch – this project is supported by Metroprojekt. The new railway station, tentatively called Praga East, is to become a key station for the high-speed line system designated in the Czech Republic as “VRT”. Praga East will not be a terminal station, and it will not be in Prague, but in Nehvizda. According to the Czechs, the construction of such a station will become an impetus for the development of the region. Thus, the architectural competition had a second, urban part, during which teams of architects designed additional areas around the train station. The proposals explore several possible approaches to relatively dense urban development.

The station will serve as an interchange hub between the high-speed lines Prague – Brno and VRT Prague – Hradec Kralove, and will also serve as a starting point for Prague and Brno.

The railway management described the signing of the contract as an important step towards the implementation of the entire pilot section of VRT Polabí.
