This project aims to improve transportation infrastructure and promote trade.

The trilateral agreement opens opportunities for attracting international financing.

However, the primary focus is on mobilizing domestic resources for the project’s implementation.

The transport ministries of all three countries have prepared a detailed report, including timelines, potential funding sources, and implementation strategy.

A preliminary memorandum of understanding for this project was signed in April 2011.

At that time, the transport ministers of Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and Botswana agreed on the construction of Tech-Banin port, located 70 km south of the port of Maputo and 20 km from the border with South Africa.

The plan also included the construction of a heavy-duty railway. In 2016, an additional memorandum was signed and revised in 2022.

The project involves not only the construction of infrastructure but also the development of a feasibility study.

Zimbabwe has confirmed its commitment to fulfilling obligations under previous agreements.
