Last year, a competition led to the decision to acquire 24 E5 Shinkansen electric trains capable of reaching speeds up to 320 km/h.
It’s noteworthy that only Japanese suppliers are eligible for the tender, and six trains will be assembled in India.
Vaishnaw also shared updates on electrifying the railway network soon and ambitious plans to build 40,000 kilometers of new tracks in 6-8 years.
To modernize infrastructure, 40,000 passenger train coaches will be replaced with contemporary models similar to those used in Vande Bharat trains.
These efforts aim to significantly enhance India’s railway system and facilitate efficient high-speed passenger transportation.
