During her courtesy visit, Stasiak met Speaker Nelly B. K. Mutti at Parliament on March 20, 2025. She confirmed the EU’s firm commitment to supporting Zambia’s legislative and sustainable goals.
Stasiak noted that the EU’s leadership shift in Brussels keeps investment and sustainability as top priorities. Consequently, the organization focuses on driving economic growth and stability in partnering nations.
The $165.24 million funding will revitalize Zambia Railways and enhance the Lobito Corridor for better trade. Additionally, it will improve energy access and install solar power in water utilities.
Beyond infrastructure, the EU targets democratic governance to strengthen Zambia’s political and economic framework. Stasiak highlighted that this aligns with shared values like democracy and human rights.
Zambia Boosts Infrastructure with EU Funding
She emphasized that the EU-Zambia partnership thrives on mutual goals for freedom and progress. Moreover, strong governance directly boosts economic development and attracts global investment.
Despite challenges like the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the EU stands firm in its support pledge. Stasiak affirmed that geopolitical issues will not derail this financial commitment.
This investment will enhance Zambia’s energy sector and transportation networks for broader connectivity. For example, solar energy projects will power water utilities and promote sustainability.
Stasiak underscored that recapitalizing Zambia Railways will improve trade links and regional access. Thus, the Lobito Corridor project connects the nation to international markets efficiently.
The ambassador expressed optimism about Zambia’s democratic system and its growth potential. She added that good governance lays a solid base for economic success and stability.
Zambia Strengthens Ties with EU for Future
This $165.24 million pledge continues a long-standing collaboration between the EU and its partner. Therefore, it fosters mutual benefits and aims for lasting prosperity in the region.
Zambian leaders praised the EU’s consistent support and welcomed the new funding announcement. They expect this investment to speed up development and reinforce democratic institutions.
The EU’s commitment arrives as the country seeks to expand its infrastructure and services. And so, this funding will significantly improve living standards and economic opportunities.
Stasiak concluded by calling Zambia a key African partner for the European Union. With this support, both sides target sustainable growth and regional stability by 2027.
