Tatravagónka: A Breakthrough in European Rail Transport with a New Semi-Trailer Platform
The contract, valued at 52.2 million złotys, represents the next phase towards realizing an ambitious plan to construct a new metro line.
The winning company, Metroprojekt sp. z o.o.
Metroprojekt sp. z o.o. is a well-known design company with 70 years of experience, specializing in building and transportation infrastructure design, including railway lines and metros. The company offers services to investors and construction contractors, and collaborates actively with other design bureaus. This extensive experience makes Metroprojekt sp. z o.o. a reliable partner for such a large-scale project.
Warsaw’s Strategic Plans
The tender results align with Warsaw’s long-term metro development plans up to 2050. Improving public transportation is a key priority. Already, 11 new metro stations have been opened, with construction underway for three more stations and technical infrastructure. Projects are also being developed for the first section of Line M3.
Selection Process and Next Steps
The tender process began in March of this year. All proposals underwent thorough examination by a commission comprising representatives from municipal and district authorities.
An important milestone was resolving commercial issues at the National Appeals Chamber, which finalized the tender results on July 3rd.
The next step will be signing the contract with Metroprojekt sp. z o.o., followed by active work on developing the conceptual design for Line M4. The project will involve extensive analysis, as well as preparation of hydrogeological and engineering-geological documentation.
Potential for Automated Metro
The preliminary design work aims to address the feasibility of implementing automated vehicle control and platform door systems at stations. Completion of all work is scheduled within 38 months.
Features of the New Line
Line M4 will connect the Tarchomin and Wilanów districts, spanning 26 kilometers with 23 stations. Eight stops will feature cameras, and plans include constructing a new central control center.

Thus, the development of Line M4 will not only enhance transportation accessibility for Warsaw residents but also contribute significantly to modernizing urban transport, making it more convenient and innovative.
