Warranty Repair of New Skoda Trains
01.09.2023
The Warsaw metro is sending new Skoda trains for warranty repair due to ventilation problems, according to the Railway Supply journal, citing CTS.
The Warsaw metro has several types of trains, including Soviet ones, most of which were sent to Ukraine, French, and Austrian ones. Recently, Czech Skoda trains have been added.

When they won the tender in October 2019 to supply 45 trains from Skoda to the Warsaw metro, the manufacturer stated that they would be equipped with air conditioning. It was expected to be cool inside, but when the contract was signed in January 2020, it turned out that it was not about air conditioning but ventilation, possibly due to a linguistic error.
As a result, the Warsaw metro will receive only 37 trains from Skoda, which is eight less than planned. Deliveries were mostly delayed due to the pandemic and are ongoing. They are expected to be completed by the end of this year.
Representatives of the Warsaw metro confirm problems with the ventilation in Skoda trains. The manufacturer is required to take measures to improve the ventilation system. Skoda is currently conducting an analysis of the air distribution system in the train carriages.
Meanwhile, the new trains have passed inspection and received approval from the Railway Transport Authority. They are currently under warranty, and any possible issues with their operation and use can be addressed.
