The total value of the contract will reach $360 million. This project will become one of the largest export orders from the DLF plant and will boost Wabtec’s market presence in Africa, while also increasing India’s role in the global rail sector.

DLF Plant Will Expand Locomotive Production for Global Demand

The DLF plant will continue operating under a 10-year joint venture between Indian Railways and Wabtec. The agreement will require the facility to produce 1,000 locomotives: 700 of the WDG 4G series and 300 of the WDG 6G series. The total program will be valued at $1.76 billion.

By the end of the contract period, the plant will have delivered over 700 locomotives to the Indian market. Its annual production capacity will remain at 100 units, supported by a workforce of 285 skilled professionals.

Wabtec will be responsible for maintaining the Guinean locomotives for a period of 13 years. Afterward, Indian Railways will take over the maintenance duties, ensuring long-term sustainability and efficient operation of the fleet.
