Wabtec Opens New Locomotive Maintenance Depot in India: Details and Contracts

American company Wabtec, in collaboration with Indian Railways (IR), has opened a new locomotive maintenance depot in Andhra Pradesh, India, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The new depot, named the Gooty Maintenance Shed, will be a key component in locomotive servicing.

Under the new depot, Wabtec will service 250 locomotives of the ES43ACmi and ES57ACi models, under a three-year contract with IR.
These locomotives have been supplied to India since 2017.
Indian Railways will manage infrastructure and workforce, while Wabtec will focus on technical expertise and manufacturing processes.
Wabtec is already actively operating in India, providing rolling stock and maintenance services.
The company has service depots in Roza and Nandimangala. Additionally, a new component manufacturing plant opened in Rohtak earlier this year.
In total, Wabtec employs about 3,000 people across its facilities in India.
At the beginning of 2024, the company signed a contract with Siemens India for the supply of braking systems for 1,200 locomotives ordered by IR from Siemens Mobility in early 2023.
