Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stated that he expects deeper collaboration. He emphasized the importance of producing new locomotives, increasing localization, and expanding service infrastructure.

In response, Wabtec representatives confirmed their interest in expanding their presence. They recalled that the company has already invested over $230 million in the country since the partnership began.

In addition, last October the parties signed a $405 million contract. The agreement includes deliveries of Evolution Series ES44ACi (TE33A) locomotives and rolling stock upgrades.

Currently, 451 locomotives of this model operate in Kazakhstan. They are primarily used on main freight routes, ensuring stable cargo transport.

Wabtec also provided KTZ with a modern transportation control system free of charge. This technology has supported the digital transformation of Kazakhstan’s logistics infrastructure.

Wabtec Enhances Local Production in the Region

The proposed agreement focuses on increasing the share of local components. Kazakhstan aims to develop its mechanical engineering sector and establish a national railway competence center.

Supporting local manufacturing will boost employment and reduce import dependence. This aligns with the country’s industrial development priorities.

Wabtec Invests in KTZ’s Technological Growth

If finalized, the agreement would give Kazakhstan access to cutting-edge technologies. The partnership could lead to joint innovation projects and advanced knowledge transfer.

As a result, the country will strengthen its position in the Central Asian railway market. KTZ, in turn, will gain more tools for fleet modernization and logistics improvement.
