Initially, the new plant will produce brake components and friction products for freight cars, metro trains, and locomotives.
The primary customer for these products will be the national carrier, Indian Railways (IR).
An investment of $18 million was made for the construction and launch of the facility, with an additional $10 million planned for future investment.
Wabtec Transit, the company’s components division, previously stated that the new plant would significantly increase their annual revenue.
It is expected to grow from the current $194.2 million to $303.5 million in three years.
This growth is driven not only by expanded manufacturing capabilities but also by increased demand for the company’s products from Indian Railways and other clients.
The company already has several facilities in India, located in Hosur, Bahadurgarh, and Baddi.
These plants specialize in producing various components for rail transport, including climate systems, pantographs, couplers, doors, and other elements for Vande Bharat trains, metro trains, locomotives, and passenger cars.
Wabtec’s plant in Marhowra is fulfilling a major contract to supply a thousand diesel locomotives for Indian Railways, highlighting the importance of the Indian market for the company.
The opening of the new plant in Rohtak is a strategic move by Wabtec to strengthen its position in India.
Investing substantial funds in production and expanding the product range will enable the company to meet the current needs of Indian Railways and actively participate in the modernization and expansion of the country’s railway infrastructure.
In the long term, such investments contribute to the sustainable growth and development of the company on an international level, enhancing its reputation as a reliable partner in the railway engineering sector.
