Danilo Miyasato, President and Regional Leader for Latin America, commented that this investment is a sign of its trust and faith in Brazil’s market potential and human expertise. He added that Wabtec is still providing advanced products that enhance performance and sustainability.
Contagem will have a Global Engineering Center that measures 9,000 square meters and houses 300 engineers. Since this center is dedicated to research and development, this business unit can facilitate projects on a local and international scale, including locomotives.
Wabtec Creates Jobs and Boosts Industrial Growth
In April, Wabtec opened a new production line dedicated to producing locomotives, and this boosted its production capacity by 28%. This will help them meet their target of producing 1,000 locomotives by 2026.
Additionally, the improved plant will enable Wabtec to provide specialized locomotive models for distribution in countries such as Australia and Uruguay as well. By optimizing production flows, Wabtec will be able to improve quality and decrease production time.
Additionally, more than 1,000 people are expected to be employed by the company in Contagem by 2026, integrating employees from the plant and the new Engineering Center. Two other Logistics Centers are scheduled to be inaugurated this year, one in Governador Valadares and another one in Monte Alto.
These projects and initiatives demonstrate Wabtec’s focus on sustainable industrial growth, technology, and development of its human resources. By combining manufacturing and engineering expertise, Wabtec is continuously raising standards of reliability for rail technology worldwide.
