Wabtec and Kazakhstan Strengthen Cooperation in Eco-Friendly Locomotives
17.07.2024
Wabtec and the government of Kazakhstan are planning to introduce a new generation of eco-friendly locomotives to modernize railway transport, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The collaboration, formalized by a framework agreement since September 2023, includes locomotive production from 2025 to 2026.
The focus is on developing and implementing alternative traction technologies by 2030, as well as digitizing the Kazakh railway system.
In Astana, at the “Locomotive құрастыру зауыты” plant, Wabtec has established an engineering center dedicated to integrating technologies using liquefied natural gas, hydrogen, and battery power as energy sources for the new generation locomotives.
This center is also responsible for enhancing the maintenance and repair processes of Kazakh traction vehicles used in other countries, including Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Moldova.
The initiative aims to improve efficiency and environmental cleanliness in Kazakhstan’s transport sector.
