Partnership with Vossloh Enhances Metro’s Technical Capacity

Strukton Rail, responsible for maintaining the Stockholm Metro infrastructure, signed a contract with Vossloh to perform scheduled rail grinding. This technology extends the service life of rail components and reduces operational noise levels.

The machine provided by the company can operate at speeds of up to 60 km/h, efficiently treating the rails without disrupting the train schedule. The work will be carried out at night to avoid any impact on passenger service.

The contract is valid for two years starting in August 2025, with an option to extend for an additional six years. The decision to renew will depend on equipment performance and overall cost-effectiveness.

Vossloh Introduces Innovative Solutions to Urban Infrastructure

Grinding aims to prevent major rail damage that could require costly replacements. The process eliminates corrugation and surface defects, preserving the integrity of the track.

The work will cover not only the main track sections but also turnouts — the most vulnerable components of the infrastructure. This approach significantly increases the system’s overall safety.

Vossloh has already implemented similar projects in several European countries, showing high efficiency. Now the company applies its expertise in the metro environment, which demands maximum reliability.

The Stockholm Metro is adopting modern maintenance practices that reduce operational costs and improve the quality of public transport services. This initiative strengthens the sustainability of the city’s transport system.
