Apart from further developing integrated monitoring systems, the former RailWatch team will work on other digital group projects across all business divisions.

The technology developed by RailWatch utilizes optical and acoustic sensors to assess the technical condition of freight and passenger cars, multiple units, and locomotives as they pass by.

The measuring stations are equipped with high-resolution cameras and specially developed LED technology for optimal glare-free lighting.

The data they record includes information about wheel damage, brake pads, train and car numbers.

An additional measurement system installed on the track collects extra data, including various wheel profile parameters, weight information, and axle load distribution.

The gathered information from the overall system is processed in the cloud using artificial intelligence.

After rigorous quality checks, the data becomes accessible to clients in processed form through a web portal.

According to Vossloh, with a detection accuracy of 98 percent, the RailWatch monitoring system ranks as one of the best AI image processing technologies in the railway sector.

The measuring stations are located on Germany’s most important freight railway corridors, as well as at industrial and port entrances.

Among the beneficiaries of the obtained information will be railway transport companies and owners of freight cars, in addition to network operators, industrial firms, and ports.

Wear and tear, as well as damage, can be identified at an early stage, and maintenance measures can be planned and implemented with high precision.

Vossloh will continue to advance existing technologies and create additional benefits for its customers.

“The topic of condition-based maintenance and prediction is crucial when it comes to creating the conditions for increasing rail transport and thus ensuring more sustainable mobility,” said Oliver Schuster, CEO of Vossloh AG.
