The savings enabled a 20% increase in the purchase volume without raising the total cost. Ukrzaliznytsia plans to build and renovate up to 280 kilometers of railway infrastructure.

The contract is part of a project with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, active since 2022. The purchase went through the EBRD ECCEP platform, ensuring transparency and efficiency of the deal.

This is already the second contract this year for rail supply to the Ukrainian railway industry. The first agreement was previously signed with a Chinese supplier, with details not disclosed.

New Projects Involving Voestalpine Rail Technology and Other Partners

In 2024, Ukrzaliznytsia cooperated with suppliers from France, the Czech Republic, and Japan. Additionally, the JICA agency provided support in the form of rails as part of international assistance.

Voestalpine Rail Technology is actively involved in key infrastructure projects across European countries. Its products are used on high-speed railways and in international freight corridors.

Ukrzaliznytsia is focused on modernizing the network amidst increased pressure on the transportation system. The new rails will reduce the wear and tear on rolling stock and improve safety for passenger and freight transport.

Transparent tender procedures strengthen the trust of investors and partners in international projects. This policy opens access to new investments and accelerates the recovery of the railway network.
