Implementation of an automatic brake testing system for freight trains

The implementation of an automatic brake testing system for freight trains has received approval from Switzerland’s Federal Office of Transport for SBB Cargo, a freight operator, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
Developed in collaboration with Austrian company PJM and Rail Cargo Austria, the system will undergo controlled operation in the coming months, with plans to increase its usage on trains by 2024.

This innovation aims to reduce the time required for traditional brake testing, which involves two workers and takes at least 40 minutes.
Now, brake condition data will be automatically collected using safety-compliant sensors, enhancing the process’s safety and efficiency.
The equipment has already been installed on 200 freight wagons, promising significant improvements in railway logistics.
