This month, officials will finalize the bidding process, and the National Assembly will review it next month. Consequently, Saturday’s government statement confirms construction starts a year earlier than planned.
Vietnam High-Speed Rail Boosts National Connectivity
Last November, lawmakers approved this transformative project, allocating approximately $67 billion for its development. The 1,541-kilometer route will connect Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City, spanning 20 regions.
Engineers will design the railway for speeds hitting up to 350 kilometers per hour. Plus, it includes 23 passenger stations and five freight hubs along the way.
Meanwhile, Vietnam plans to launch another rail linking Lao Cai, Hanoi, and Lang Son in December. This line will enhance connections to provinces near China’s border.
Next month, officials will negotiate with China about the Lao Cai-Hanoi-Hai Phong railway. They aim to sign a loan agreement by November, expanding northern links.
Expanding Infrastructure Beyond Vietnam High-Speed Rail
Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City leaders must now refine their metro expansion plans. The government has pressed them to secure loans and finalize new routes.
This North-South railway stands as one of Vietnam’s boldest transportation efforts this decade. Furthermore, it promises to revolutionize travel and trade across key cities.
By advancing these rail projects, Vietnam seeks to upgrade its transportation system and fuel economic growth. Analysts say these lines will spur development and regional ties effectively.
