Valley Metro’s Two-Line Rail System Expansion

The new expansion will introduce a two-line rail system intersecting at the downtown Phoenix transit hub. The A Line will operate between Gilbert Road/Main Street in Mesa, Arizona, and the Downtown Hub.

The B Line will serve the route from Metro Parkway in northwest Phoenix to Baseline Road/Central Avenue. Additionally, the expansion includes eight new stations and 14 new trains.

Addressing Transportation Challenges with Valley Metro

This light-rail extension will address critical transportation needs in a region where nearly 44% of residents lack access to personal vehicles.

Valley Metro’s efforts aim to provide these communities with reliable public transit, improving connectivity across Phoenix. The new extension is expected to add over 8,000 daily riders to the system, which currently serves around 35,000 boardings per day.

This expansion plays a key role in reducing congestion on the city’s streets and offering a sustainable, efficient transportation alternative for commuters.

Valley Metro’s continued growth of public transit aligns with the city’s broader goals of improving infrastructure and accessibility for its residents.
