NT2400 Tram: New Technologies and Passenger Comfort

The new NT2400 tram has a capacity of 115 passengers, including 27 seated places. The manufacturer states that the model’s maximum speed reaches 70 km/h. Its technical features include battery packs for autonomous movement and an automatic passenger counting system. This model represents a further development of trams previously supplied by Končar.

Under the contract signed in 2022, Končar committed to delivering 40 trams. An additional order, placed in 2024, ensures delivery completion by the end of 2026. Zagreb city authorities have already announced plans to purchase another 40 new trams. The total cost of all 80 units is estimated at around €200 million.

Public Transport Development: New Trams in Zagreb

Zagreb’s mayor, Tomislav Tomašević, emphasized that modernizing urban transport is a key priority. The introduction of new trams will significantly improve passenger comfort and safety. Additionally, modern models provide lower noise levels, contributing to a better urban environment.

According to Končar representatives, the new rolling stock has improved energy efficiency. The use of battery packs reduces dependency on overhead lines. This is especially useful in cases of temporary power outages or track maintenance.

City authorities expect that renewing the tram fleet will help reduce road congestion. Modern low-floor models ensure easy boarding for passengers with limited mobility. It is also important to note that implementing new technologies contributes to reducing harmful emissions.

Currently, city officials are developing a comprehensive transport modernization plan. The goal is to gradually renew the entire tram fleet to enhance service quality. In the coming years, Zagreb could become one of Europe’s leading cities in public transportation standards.
