Energy-efficient tram Citadis 3 reduces operating costs

This 45-meter-long model accommodates up to 286 passengers. Compared to the Citadis 403, energy consumption has dropped by 20% thanks to a new traction motor, LED lighting, and upgraded climate control.

Alstom also estimates that maintenance costs over 30 years will be 16% lower, helping the city operator cut long-term operating expenses.

Production of tram Citadis 3 spread across France

Ten Alstom facilities in France are involved in the production process, including plants in Ornans, Le Creusot, Tarbes, and Villeneuve-d’Ascq. Final assembly takes place in La Rochelle.

In total, CTS has ordered 39 tram Citadis 3 units, with deliveries scheduled to be completed by 2025. These vehicles will strengthen Strasbourg’s public transit network.

The project supports the region’s push toward sustainable transport solutions and modernization of rolling stock through advanced technology.
