Slovakia is interested in the construction of 1435mm gauge line from Uzhgorod to Chop
16.02.2022
Adviser on international cooperation to the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Eduard Burash, said that Slovakia is interested in implementing the project for the construction of a 1435mm track from Uzhgorod to Chop.
According to him, Slovak State Secretary Yaroslav Kmet will visit Uzhgorod, where one of the topics will be the construction of a European railway route from Uzhgorod to Chop, reports Railway Supply magazine.
Now the Kosice-Mukachevo train is running, and if the project is implemented, a direct connection with Uzhgorod will be established. In Slovakia, they believe that this will unload the car passenger traffic at checkpoints.

Burash also recalled that now the European Union is betting on the development of railway communication. The Slovak government even expects that it will be possible to attract European funds for the implementation of joint railway projects.
He also said that he would work on a meeting of the leaders of the railways of Ukraine and Slovakia. Note that the European gauge railway existed between these cities, but was dismantled in 1991.
It should also be recalled that in 2022, the budget provided UAH 5 million for the restoration of the 1435mm rail line between these cities.
