Construction of the Rail Baltica bridge over the Daugava River in Riga has commenced, marking a significant step forward in the development of the Rail Baltica central hub in the Latvian capital, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
Led by the construction consortium “BERERIX” and overseen by Egis-Deutsche Bahn, the project aims to improve connectivity and transportation infrastructure in Riga.

Construction started with the installation of two supports on the right bank of the Daugava, with plans to build the first support in the water in the spring.
The new reinforced concrete bridge is designed to harmoniously blend into Riga’s skyline while preserving the city’s panorama and not obstructing existing bridges.
Placing the new bridge supports opposite existing ones ensures unhindered navigation along the Daugava.
The Rail Baltica railway bridge, approximately one kilometer long with 15 spans, is designed for two European gauge tracks.
Unlike the existing bridge, the new one will be reinforced concrete, with pedestrian and bicycle lanes, emergency access roads, and maintenance access.
Construction plans include building the first support on the Daugava in the spring and constructing span structures approximately 140 meters long using the balanced cantilever method.
Temporary changes to traffic along the embankment have been made to ensure construction safety, including possible night closures or lane reductions for construction work.
The new bridge aims to improve mobility in central Riga, providing residents and visitors with enhanced transportation options.
