Tram Bozankaya of the New Generation Launched in Belgrade
05.08.2025
Belgrade has launched a new generation of public transport: tram Bozankaya officially began service on city routes after completing two months of testing. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Tram Bozankaya already operating as deliveries continue
The first batch of three vehicles arrived in the Serbian capital in June. Mayor Aleksandar Šapić announced that the fourth tram Bozankaya will arrive by early August, with all 25 units expected by March next year. Deliveries will continue on a monthly basis, with three trams arriving each month. By the end of the year, up to 20 vehicles will be in service.

The €67 million contract was signed in July 2024. Although the initial schedule planned for full delivery by August 2025, the timeline was adjusted to accommodate production realities. Authorities prioritized quality control, which strengthened trust in the supplier.
Tram Bozankaya’s features and impact on Belgrade’s network
The new five-section trams are 30.5 meters long and 2.4 meters wide, with a capacity of up to 218 passengers, including 48 seated. Tram Bozankaya features 80% low-floor design and can reach speeds of up to 70 km/h. It is built for Belgrade’s narrow-gauge track (1000 mm), matching the city’s infrastructure.
Compared to CAF Urbos trams, which have been in operation since 2011, the new models offer higher capacity, improved maneuverability, and stronger motors. These qualities enable the city to expand its tram network and launch new routes. According to Mayor Šapić, tram Bozankaya will operate efficiently across all areas of Belgrade.
The first vehicle underwent two months of testing, while subsequent units will be tested in a shorter timeframe. However, local media report that the trams’ increased width creates clearance issues at certain intersections. City engineers are already developing infrastructure solutions.
In parallel, GSP Beograd launched a tender to purchase 100 additional two-section trams worth 40.5 billion dinars (approximately $360 million). This marks the largest tram fleet renewal in Belgrade’s history.
