Uzbekistan: Plans for Producing Own Electric Trains and Metro Trains
25.03.2024
Uzbekistan is preparing for a historic step – this year, production of its own electric trains and metro trains will commence at the Tashkent Railcar Plant, as reported by the company “NPO A.T.O.R.,” a leader in comprehensive supply for passenger carriages, electric trains, and socially oriented transport.
This ambitious project, presented to Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, promises several advantages for both the country and its residents.

The first to roll off the Tashkent Railcar Plant assembly line will be suburban electric trains.
Equipped with asynchronous traction motors, these trains will reach speeds of up to 120 km/h and accommodate up to 306 passengers.
Subsequently, production will expand to regional electric trains capable of speeds up to 160 km/h and accommodating up to 360 people.
Additionally, the project includes the creation of new trains for the metro system, featuring high passenger capacity and modern technologies.
One of the key reasons for launching domestic rolling stock production is the expected cost savings. Uzbek authorities anticipate reduced expenses compared to imported counterparts.
Moreover, the increase in jobs at Tashkent Railcar Plant and the rise in tax revenues for the country’s budget will be additional benefits of this project.
It’s important to note that the increase in production localization to 40-45%, with a promise of further growth, reflects Uzbekistan’s commitment to self-sufficiency and the development of its national industry.
This step not only contributes to the development of the country’s railway sector but also fosters technological and manufacturing competencies, which in the long term could lead to economic diversification and strengthening of the industrial base.
Thus, the launch of domestic production of electric trains and metro trains heralds a new era for railway transport in Uzbekistan and demonstrates the country’s aspiration for independent development and infrastructure modernization.
