UZ plans to build infrastructure to improve the export of goods
27.04.2022
Representatives of Ukrzaliznytsia spoke about infrastructure projects that will help improve the situation with the export of goods abroad.
This was discussed during an online meeting with participants in the grain market on April 21, reports Railway Supply magazine.
As Valeriy Tkachev, Deputy Director of the Department of Commercial Work of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia, explained during the event, a special commission of the company examined all connections on the Lviv railway, which now accounts for the largest volume of transportation abroad. After that, the experts developed an appropriate action plan. Therefore, for each crossing there is a program of repair and investment work for its development.
According to the official, the option of improving the throughput capacity at the border with Poland (Medica/Mostyska II crossing) has already been considered. To this end, it is planned to carry out work to lengthen the European gauge route from Mostyska I station (where the 1435 mm route ends now) towards Lviv.
The question about the restoration of the route to Moldova (Berezine-Basarabeasca connection) was raised during the meeting also.
“There was a meeting with the Minister of Infrastructure. Plans were discussed both for the short term and for the long term. The long-term plans include the construction of a branch line from Artsyz to Tatarbunary towards the port of Reni,” explained Andriy Kiman, head of the production unit “Directorate of Railway Transportation for organizing interaction between ports and port stations” of the regional branch of Odessa Railways of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia.
This option is considered primarily because of convenience (no need to cross the border of Ukraine) and lower cost (subject to transportation through the territory of Moldova, the cost of transportation will be higher). According to the official, now the calculations are underway and options for financing the project are being considered.
At the same time, Andrei Kiman spoke about the initiatives already at the implementation stage. In particular, it is planned to restore the railway track at the Izmail station. Due to this, it will be possible to increase the capacity of unloading grain.
In addition, the third region was not used in the port of Reni before.
“We supplied it with a diesel locomotive and people. Now the repair is being completed directly at the stevedore. Unloading will also increase due to this,” Andrey Kiman emphasized.
